Days like today when the clouds are low and so are the temperatures, I have to fight every.single.urge to just sit on the couch. All day. Here’s a couple tips that help me get up and go (most of the time).
• Set your timer and beat it. I can do miracles in 20 minutes. Miracles. And I also look like a complete and total fool running (literally running) around trying to get as much as possible done before the timer goes off. Do it.
• Light a candle. (If nothing else it makes the mess smell better.)
• Rearrange something. That always (and I do mean ALWAYS) reinvigorates my motivation, evaporating all the lazy, cozy images in my mind.
Random tip: Have you tried cooking bacon in the oven? It’s the bomb! 400 degrees. Single layer on a cookie sheet. Cook until done. (If you don’t know what done means, then please don’t cook bacon. Fire hazard.) Drain like usual. Save the grease in a container in the fridge to fry your Oehlschlager Farm Eggs or to add to your green beans or taters or a gazillion other things. You’re welcome.
Stay warm. Hide your Elf on the Shelf for your kiddos. Smile. ‘Tis the season!

My name is Ginia Oehlschlager and I'm a small-town gal from Missouri. Join me as I document my crazy life on the farm with my husband and four kids. I'm always looking for frugal, simple ways to live the life God set before me. Where faith, family and fun come together on the farm.
