The school year has only just begun and we are already getting sick her on the farm.

Masen started it off. He had the pukes after only two days in school and ended up taking a sick day due to the subsequent high fevers. Bella was sent home from school for having similar symptoms but thankfully it was a false alarm.

And then last Friday it — the dreaded sickness — hit me like a ton of bricks. There was a sore throat that was completely unmanageable, pain-wise, and then a cough and chest tightness. After a negative home strep test (that’s another story, but those tests come in VERY handy) I diagnosed myself with either the flu or some other mystery virus.

This virus is a doozy. Today, which is day 5, is the first day I feel half-way normal. I have literally slept and medicated my way through the last several days and my house shows it.

Poor Matt works so hard at the yards and when he comes home he has lots (LOTS) to do on the farm. When I was sick, he put all his plans aside and entertained and fed the kids the entire weekend. Then my parents helped yesterday with childcare.

Now that I am healthy enough to start caring about the state of my house, the mess has me overwhelmed. Paralyzed.

I would take pictures to prove and disgust you with the mess (and maybe for a little sympathy), but I’m too vain.

Instead I shall leave you with a quote from Mark Twain.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one.”
